I had this problem as well, and I tried a multitude of tasks, including reinstalling and recompiling xmms and all of it's depedencies like esd, and manually trying to feed the plugins into xmms.

I gave up finally and removed /sw/ recursively and installed fink from scratch, and it had worked this time. 10.3.2.

When I installed XMMS it won't play any files I have. When I try to change output plugin in preferences there are no options to choose from. I've updated to the newest version and still nothing. I'm running 10.3.2.
