i am having trouble with fink...
my goal is to be able to run emacs and xdvi from the terminal window,
by typing "emacs" and "xdvi file.dvi" from the command line. (this is
how it works on the unix machines i have used).
i just installed OS X 10.3, X11, X11 SDK, fink, and now tetex
successfully. however, when i type in:
$xdvi test.dvi
i get out:
/sw/bin/xdvi: line 48: 17616 Segmentation fault xdvi.bin $NAMEOPT
${1+"$@"}
(i have set my display correctly.) can anyone help me with this. i
noticed that a few months ago this came up on the mailing list:

but i could not find a solution posted.
also, which version of emacs do i download from fink so that when i type
in "emacs" to the command line, i get the nice GUI version of emacs to
appear on my screen. any help would be greatly appreciated. i am not a
very proficient computer user, and just want to be able to write my tex in
