it seems that texmacs still wants xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs (at least for binary updates). i thought this wasn't meant to be the case anymore.
The texmacs package, binary or not, wants nothing of the sort. It only ever depended on the virtual packages "x11", "x11-dev", "x11-shlibs".
I don't quite know what distribution you are running: xfree86-base-threaded-libs is in 10.2-gcc3.3 and older, but a binary texmacs is only in 10.3/current.
anyway, this causes some library/user version issues in /usr/X11R6/lib and prevents X11 from working. i was able to resolve this by making
libfreetype.6.dylib link to libfreetype.6.3.dylib (had been 6.2 previously)
and
libXrender.1.dylib link to libXrender.1.2.dylib (had been 1.1 previously).
I suspect you had such library issues before, or you had some old xfree86 installation, so that the fink virtual package mechanism doesn't understand what version of X11 it is supposed to provide.
I assume you have read the Fink FAQ#8.11?
