Yesterday, I had some problems compiling guile (as part of the bundle-gnome 2.4 convenience package) that were solved by removing gawk. Now I am having similar problems compiling graphviz, but gawk is listed as a dependency for this package, and I can't get it to install without gawk.

Did you rebuild gawk in the meantime, or did you just let the dependency reinstall the previous *-deb package? Rebuilding might help.

I had fink recompile gawk and got the same error. I installed GNOME 2.4 on a similar Mac OS X installation a few days ago, and nothing like this happened, if that information is useful. Thanks so much for your help so far.
