When fink installed it created the .profile for me.
There is no .bash_profile on my system.
So, I should create .bash_profile and put
/sw/bin/init.sh
in it? That's all that's in the .profile
And why do qcad and xinvaders launch as is, but gimp and abiword don't?
Thanks,
Brandon Potter

Okay,
I'm a little confused; If there's a really simple answer---please share. I've searched the archives for an hour or so and found a little to help; but I've found no complete solution however.
I just switched from an iBook to a Powerbook G4. I ran all the software updates, installed XCode (1.2) and then installed fink. Everything "installed" okay, but I can't get all the apps to actually run.
The previous shell I used was tcsh, and now it's bash. I'm willing to learn what I need to for bash use--I checked the archives for the list and pretty much all I found was to make sure that the .profile has

and there's your problem. It's probable that 'bash' will not look at "~/.profile", since there will likely be the file "~/.bash_profile" in your home directory (check the 'bash' man page for details). Try adding that line (and the others) to the latter file.

Justin
