I read Fink's X11 manual and have taken the following steps according to what I believe the directions are:
1 Installed Apple's X11.app
2 Installed Apple's X11 SDK
3 Installed Fink's system-xfre86-43 package(s):
i system-xfree86 1:1.0-2 Placeholder: XFree86
i system-xfree86-43 4.3-3 Placeholder: XFree86 4.3.x and Apple X11 1.0
i system-xfree86-upgrade 1.0-1 (place-holder package for upgrading broken installs)
4 Install gtk2+ (or anther fink X11 apps)
Now, from what I understand from Fink's X11 documentatino, with steps 1,2 and 3 successfully done I should be able to build gtk2+ package to use with Apple's X11 by having the system-xfree86-43 package installed. So with everything in placve I do
fink install gtk+2
and fink successufly downloads and compiles all required source packages (yay!). Actually it even installs a number of required ones (pango1, fonts etc), but when it gets to installing xfree86 I get the following error:

the problem is that it says the libs it just compiled (i guess) conflict with the current installed X11 libs, BUT I *think* installing system-free86-43 should have taken car of that. In fact the first time I ran 'fink isntall gtk+2' a helpful error message said I should isntall system-free86 and system-xcode, BUT system-free86 WAS installed:
i system-xfree86-43 4.3-3 Placeholder: XFree86 4.3.x and Apple X11 1.0
and when I try to isntall the system-excode I get the same X11 incompatibility error.
any help or tips on getting the gtk2+ shared libs installed and workibng with Apples X11 would be greatly appreciated!
