Hello everyone,

Boy, I really hope there is a quick solution to this. After compiling gimp2.2 for 1.5 hours, I get the following error when I try to execute gimp:

"Gimp requires FreeType version 2.1.7 or later. Installed version is 0.10. Please upgrade to 2.1.7 or later"

So, I installed freetype 2.1.9, but the error persists. Do I have to recompile the package from scratch, or is there a quicker solution? Or is this something that needs to be addressed by the maintainer?

Thanks.

There's a parallel thread on -beginners about this: gimp2 is set up not to use _any_ fink freetype2 package you install, but rather that which comes with your X11 installation (check in /usr/X11R6/lib).

What flavor of X11 do you have? If the package isn't working with Apple's X11 or with XFree86, then the maintainer may need to rework it to use an external freetype.
