I had a problem switching to cvs from rsync, so I blew away /sw and started again from bootstrap. I ran:
bootstrap.sh
fink selfupdate-cvs
fink install oaf
At which point did you activate unstable?
I got the ld error regarding lgnorba again, even with the new patch
I then ran "fink rebuild gnome-libs" (as it had already been installed when trying to install oaf) and re-ran "fink install oaf" and it compiled correctly.
I don't quite understand. What version of gnome-libs did you have installed and where from? Did you install this separately, perhaps before activating unstable or by transferring it from an older installation, or was it installed as part of the "fink install oaf" command execution? And did you get exactly the same error as before or only a similar one? With the new version of oaf, it should be impossible to get exactly the same error in the configure phase of oaf.
But then the error you have been getting should have been impossible with any kind of installation.
So, rebuilding did the trick, but that indicates that something isn't right somewhere, as my original build happened only an hour before the rebuild, it wasn't some older version problem.
Well, without knowing what versions of the 3 gnome-libs[-dev,-shlibs] packages you had installed at which point, this is hard to verify.
Thing are now working for me, but it looks like the compilation problems are with gnome-libs more than with oaf. Thanks for the help.
It is clear that your original problem was from an incomplete installation of gnome-libs (or rather gnome-libs-dev and/or gnome-libs-shlibs), because a library wasn't found that should have been there. The question remains why such an incomplete installation was possible.
But there were other errors besides the not found libgnorba that came up later on in the building of oaf. Some of them may have been fixed by upgrading gnome-libs from the version 1.4.2-19 in the 10.3 tree to 1.4.2-29 in the 10.4-transitional tree. In any case, to be on the safe side, I modified oaf again to require the latest version of gnome-libs.
