OK, one more thing to finish this off:
My earlier success report was for a 10.3.9 system. On Tiger, I just saw
that the build still doesn't work unless one sets gcc_select 3.3 first.
Jeff mentioned this to me earlier but it wasn't the issue in Derek's
case. Now that the other stuff is fixed, I guess a warning about doing
the appropriate gcc_select should be put in for 10.4 systems.
