Could it be something in your local firewall settings?
As for CVS--that's a common occurrence for anonymous CVS at
Sourceforge, and that's why rsync selfupdating was implemented.
It must have something to do with my firewall. There are other
oddies too (e.g., I can't connect to pop.gmail.com either),
presumably due to my router's firewall settings.
