I followed your steps, except that I still had bundle-gnome installed and gnome-session was a dependency. So I 1. Removed bundle-gnome 2. Removed gnome-session 3. Removed control-center 4. Installed gnome-settings-daemon 5. Installed control-center (successfully) Gnome crashed on the first start but was happy on the second and subsequent restarts.
