Hello,

I'm currently still using a Fink installation originally done under
10.3, and hardly touched after I upgraded to 10.4 (because it simply
worked).
Now, I'm waiting for a new MBP to arrive, so I'm looking into the best
way to upgrade (best meaning breaks the least of the various
dependencies on /sw in programmes not in Fink I installed in
/usr/local).

My version is 0.7.0.cvs, package manager 0.20.6 .

I've tried to follow the instructions on the website to update/upgrade
Fink on a PowerPc/Tiger machine, so that afterwards I can move that
installation to the new MBP, and continue the upgrade.

apt-get update never seems to complete, but gives plenty of messages
concerning missing files, as if updating a 10.3 installation is no
longer supported.

So I tied 'fink selfupdate', which churned around for a while, and
then failed with

...
install -c -p -m 644 fink.shlibs "/sw/src/root-fink-0.28.0-11/DEBIAN/shlibs"
/bin/rm -f /sw/src/root-fink-0.28.0-11/sw/info/dir
/sw/src/root-fink-0.28.0-11/sw/info/dir.old
/sw/src/root-fink-0.28.0-11/sw/share/info/dir

Ever since, I don't get any further. Fink --version tells me:

My question: is it still possible to upgrade my installation tree? I
do have a backup, of course, so can start the process anew.

TIA,
René
