You're seeing the same thing because selfupdate doesn't change the 
problem.  In spite of what the message says, this is an issue on _your_ 
end that (the output doesn't distinguish between cases):

It is essentially impossible for builds on OS X to avoid detecting stuff 
installed in /usr/local.
