a closer check to my MacPro (on which the problem mentioned does not occur)
shows that it runs under fink version 0.29.21
   [spirou]<donati> fink --version
   Package manager version: 0.29.21
   Distribution version: selfupdate-rsync Fri Jun 29 11:15:38 2012, 10.6, i386
   Trees: local/main stable/main stable/crypto local/injected
while the MacBook (on which the problem occurs) is running under
fink version 0.33.2 (all other output of fink --version being the same).
so i expect the bug i'm experiencing on the MacBook relates to the newer fink
version i'm using...

btw, i'd also be interested in knowing why typing 'fink selfupdate' did (and
still does) update the PM on my MacBook
while typing exactly the same on the MacPro keeps fink PM in version 0.29.21
and does not update it to the latest version.
any ideas?

thanks in advance for any help you can provide
regards
