Don't ask me! I am simple-minded and use TeX Live. (Which I think is clever. I
mean, my behaviour. TeX Live is quite good, too…)
Anyway, you have 'dpkg -L <package name>' to list the contents of an installed
package, you have locate, find, and kpsewhich to determine whether the things
you are missing exist or not on your computer. So make sure that you do not
have installed the PFB file versions of Computer and Latin Modern! Once you're
sure that you don't have these installed, then you could assemble an
appropriate Google search. If you find that you have all these font files, then
it's better to use updmap-sys to first list all the enabled MAP file fragments,
then to disable them (all, possibly, there must some bug introduced by you when
manually editing config files for updmap), and finally enable what's worth to
become enabled (the Vietnamese, Polish, or Quasi font variants aren't really
useful in most cases).
Another option is to uninstall the Fink TeX related packages and then to
reinstall them. This way the files you touched would gain their default
contents and all extra files you might have added would be gone, when
uninstallation would be forced. Before you start with this option, it might be
useful to read about texdoc, updmap, tlmgr, fmtutil, … (because now you have
the resources, after uninstalling them they're gone)
Third option is to install TeX Live (or MacTeX) and exercise there what you
want to achieve in Fink's TeX.
Fourth is to use TeX Live and dump Fink's TeX.
