Latest finnix, 108, wich runs 3.8.0-1-amd64-finnix. The computer is a
Lenovo ThinkPad E530.

dmesg doesn't mention the usb-sticks either, it does however mention both
the fingerprint scanner, the integrated camere and a few hubs, but no
usb-storage devices.

lsmod mentions amongst other things that both usbhid, usb_storage, usbcore,
usb_common, ehci_hcd, ehci_pci, and scsi_mod are loaded... which is more
usb-related modules than my normal desktop loads.
