I run the same configuration, and so far haven't had this problem. It
does seem sometimes that Fire won't wake well from sleep, but so far it
hasn't messed with the machine. I'm using Airport for network
connectivity, haven't tried 0.29b yet with builtin Ethernet.
On the whole, Fire seems to handle sleep much better than 0.28b did.
