I went through the fire list archive to read the discussions on this, since I have been away for a while, & I believe I've found the original request, which was never followed up by any thoughts.

Hi there,

would it be possible to enhance Fires dock men, so that when I just
click on a budy in there without using the submenu for it, to open a
new message chat window then?

I myself, being an avid user of the dock functions in the past, don't really see the point in simplifying this particular feature at the expense of four others when only one extra mouse navigation was needed to select "Open IM window". I loved the fact that you could get the same use out of the dock's simple three sub menu's as that of the actual buddy list itself. Would it be at all possible to implement this particular feature without removing the established UI that so many people already rely on? Such as a dock pref like "Simple dock menu's" similar to OS9's "Simple Finder" preference.

Also, as I was researching through the list, I found a response from Colter to an unrelated, yet slightly similar, issue from the past that makes a good point here.

I submit these thoughts only for your consideration & will ultimately stand by whatever decision is made of this matter for the good of the application.

Thanks,
Brad
