Hello again,

I believe I can be of some help. A colleague of mine has been fiddling 
with the Y! procotol for a while now, and from what I can understand, 
the most significant change  is that authentication method is now an 
md5-ish crypto hash. The remainder of the protocol seems to be mostly 
the same.

I'll try asking him for some pointers on this and will let you know 
more. However, I believe there are some folks debating this on the 
ari-yahoo and yahoolib mailing lists (this by word of mouth, maybe 
someone will have URLs handier).
