Usual way for data coercion: application just set desired data type in metadata during fetch.
PS: I understand that it may be convenient to set up mapping at server side and doesn't bother about application programming, but in this case the solution must be comprehensive and let any server-side type to be mapped to any client-side type, not only chosen ones.
