Ok i feel so stupid..
I've tracked down the error.
With javascript consoled active, i' ve tried pressing F12 a couple of
times (clicking or double clicking the icon didn't do the job) and
then, voila, an error had appeared on the error console. Something
about Firebug is nul, and another chrome error before that.
I've checked the error and it was about an extension missing.
The extension, windows presentation foundation/dotnet , apparently was
somehow declared in the extension.ini but no such folder was in the
extensions directory of my profile.
I deleted the extension's entry, and firebug now starts normally.

What i can't understand is how this extension was declared, even in
the newly created profile.
Oh well.
Thanks for you help.
