Yea! Thanks, Hernán, for pointing me in the right direction. It's working again. Given the permission issues I wondered if it was a vista thing, but remember now I had a problem with AVG once before.
At first I couldn't find anyway to turn AVG off completely, as I did not have it coming up in my system tray (I think I had turned that off along with a bunch of other stuff to speed things up) and couldn't find a way to do it from the start or program menus, so in order to turn it off completely I had to go to run msconfig and turn it back on in the system tray. (Don't know why since I also had access via the start-up menu.) Then once I exited it was greyed out and I couldn't see any way to turn it back on. The start menu icon said no components were available. To be safe I downloaded a new installation of AVG, then went back to run and msconfig and turned off everything in the startup group except the most basic stuff. I then tried again to install firebug and it worked. The icon in the system tray still wouldn't let me turn AVG back on so, so I reinstalleld/repaired AVG, restarted Firefox, and everything still worked! Good timing because I really need Firebug right now to find some problems with a website I am working on. I hope this helps someone else. thanks again Leeonardo On Oct 1, 11:22 am, Hernan Rodriguez Colmeiro <[email protected]> wrote: > On Thu, Oct 1, 2009 at 14:23, leeonardo <[email protected]> wrote: > > > 2009-10-01 09:46:24 - ExtensionManager:_finishOperations - failure, > > catching exception - lineno: 1658 - file: undefined - [Exception... > > "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 > > (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIZipReader.extract]" nsresult: > > "0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)" location: "JS frame :: > > file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js > > :: extractExtensionFiles :: line 1658" data: no] > > 2009-10-01 09:46:24 - ExtensionManager:_finishOperations - failure, > > catching exception - lineno: 4987 - file: > > file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/components/nsExtensionManager.js > > - TypeError: entries[i] is null > > 2009-10-01 09:48:21 - safeInstallOperation: install operation (caller- > > supplied callback) failed, rolling back file moves and aborting > > installation. > > > Can anyone tell me what this log suggests, and what else I can try or > > in what order or... > > Leeonardo, what that logs indicates is that Firefox couldn't create > the necessary files because of not enough permissions.
