There is a bug report that sounds similar:
 Issue 2362:     Firefox 3.5.3 on Mac won't quit with Firebug 1.4.3
but it does not have enough info to work on it.

I suggest you try Firebug 1.5X.a26, if you reproduce the problem you
can turn on the tracing and see if the loop is in the error processing
(typically the problem with 100% on exit).
