I guess what is asked for here is not the way how Firebug handles this, but how to access the HTTP status code of an AJAX request the normal way. If that's like so, please read the article about AJAX at MDN<https://developer.mozilla.org/en/AJAX/Getting_Started#Step_3_.E2.80.93_A_Simple_Example>and check httpRequest.status.
