The element picker does work, though due to a bug it first selects the <body> element before selecting the actually inspected element. See bug 1324254 <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1324254>. If it really doesn't work for you at all, please file a new bug and post the link to it here as reference.
