To this point I strongly disagree. I feel that Microsoft has made
tremendous strides in taking security seriously and meeting customers
legitimate needs. People quite often think that because there is a GUI
invloved that there is no need to understand the product. This is far from
the case, sometimes it can seem deceptively simple. In this day and age it
seems that large vendor support for security related incidents is higher
than ever before. To sit and bash software manufacturers on a single case
basis is not fair to those manufacturers or to people that entrust you for
your comments. Microsoft has a lot of good products, and good support if
you know where to go, Novell and Sun are the same way. BSD and Linux have
good support available, but it is available through different routes. How
many people actually find "unique" problems with software. I believe that
most people would agree that a high percentage of software problems are
caused by lack of definitive knowledge of the product.
Which leads to my final request, if you prefer another product, then use it,
if you don't like it, don't use it. Let's try not to make this a
pro-"anything" or a "lets bash so and so" forum. There is plenty of
constructive topics that we can focus on.
Thank You
Tim Doscher

Brian, you are not getting the point. Just because there are more
Volkswagen than Rolls Royce, a Volkswagen is not better.
If you install your system, and it runs, everything is perfect. If you
have a strange problem (with Microsoft) you are alone.
If you have a real problem (no matter if HP, SUN or IBM), specially a
security related one, you get quite quickly a contact to the lab and can
argue directly with the person who wrote that piece of code, or at least
has access to the source code.
With Microsoft you get nothing.
Look for millions of people McDonalds is good enough. But there are some
they like Chateau Briand and a bottle of Chateau Margaux, 1er Grand Cru.
have fun ...
