  No.  UDP is connectionless....

  My firewall is intercepting a number of UDP packets whose source port is 
1976 and whose destination port is 1976.  Since (a) the firewall is catching 
them, and (b) I have no services running on this port (hence my question...), 
I'm in no immediate danger.
  My question was to try to determine why some remote machine would be 
sending me these unfamiliar packets.
