I am a consultant on site with a client who is looking to implement a good
firewall solution. At the current time, they are just running MS Proxy
Server 2.0 which gives them NAT and internet access but no real security. I
have never really worked much with security, but would like to assist them
in getting something in place. They run on mostly NT platform, but would
actually like to implement a solution that is more hardware based, since it
will probably be more reliable.
Right now they run Cabletron, Cisco, and 3COM networking equipment. I have
looked at Cabletron's solution which combines a router with CheckPoint
Firewall-1 software. I was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback
on this, whether it be on CheckPoint's software or the idea of a hardware
solution vs. a software package running on NT or Linux or something.
Again, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
