Thanks for all of the feedback from everyone. I have another question
though now. If I do go with something like the Cabletron/Nokia/CheckPoint
or a Cisco PIX box or something which provides routing and Firewall in one.
Would it make sense to keep their current router along with the new box or
just replace it with this all in one unit? Any great advantages or
disadvantages in the way you would configure this?

I ask because they just bought a new Cabletron ssr8000 about 6 months ago
which is already up and running fully configured, but at the same time is
probably still worth a nice chunk of cash if it will not providing any real
advantage by being there.

Again, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and happy holidays.

Justin

                I would suggest Check Point's FireWall-1 on a Nokia
platform. It is easy to
configure, simple to use and a breeze to install, plus it
provides good
security. This would provide an appliance solution or they
could put
                FireWall-1 on an NT box.

                Subject: Firewall solution

I am a consultant on site with a client who is looking to
implement a good
firewall solution. At the current time, they are just
running MS Proxy
Server 2.0 which gives them NAT and internet access but no
real security. I
have never really worked much with security, but would like
to assist them
in getting something in place. They run on mostly NT
platform, but would
actually like to implement a solution that is more hardware
based, since it
                will probably be more reliable.

Right now they run Cabletron, Cisco, and 3COM networking
equipment. I have
looked at Cabletron's solution which combines a router with
CheckPoint
Firewall-1 software. I was wondering if anyone could give me
some feedback
on this, whether it be on CheckPoint's software or the idea
of a hardware
solution vs. a software package running on NT or Linux or
something.

Again, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

                Thanks.
