Thanks to everyone who replied ... I guess the basic conclusion is that
NetMeeting is not only insecure, it's a pain to try to get through a
firewall.
For the purposes of this demo, though, we don't really need security (since
the demo computer doesn't need to be attached to anything). I think we'll
just stick it outside the firewall for now. In the future, WebEx definitely
does look like a good alternative.
I didn't hear anything about a NetMeeting server, though, that would operate
similar to WebEx does but can be managed on site. I guess such a beast
could exist. You could also just run NetMeeting on a machine in the DMZ and
have everyone, including the moderator, connect to it. Then again, I don't
know if there are user-level controls (to allow one particular user access
to shared programs and no one else). Something to discover another day ...
