What I need, as a developer and not a firewalls expert, is a list of field
names that we could use to create a sort of "master table" to describe the
firewall rules. I would also need descriptions on how to sort this
information.

I also need a list of fields that you might want to list features of
firewalls, to include in people's personal commentary.

Also, should we keep this a closed community, or completely open to the
public?

If closed, we could do something as simple as putting a blanket
password/login in the security permissions on the webserver, and be fairly
free about passing it out on the list.

What do you think?

Please read the proposal available now at http://www.firewallreviews.com

While the great tome of knowledge, "Building Internet Firewalls," is a good
place to start such a list/database, it is far from a complete list. I was
actually pondering the same idea a few weeks back, however I lack the web
development expertise for such a task. This also ties together with an idea
that I talked with the securityfocus people a few months ago, a detailed
ports list/database. There are a lot of them out there, but very few
complete ones with detailed info such as links to places/websites with
detailed info (similiar to NetworkICE's list), general rating on threat
(like on Robert Graham's list), etc.

If you need any help with this, let me know. It'd be a great resource if
planned out properly (especially for newbies).

Mike
