Axent Raptor on NT. It provides a transparent SMTP proxy that blocks
relaying and does anti-spam, complete with rejection based on your
favourite spam gateway list (I think MAPS is the standard, but check
for yourself. And you can pick another if you do not like the
default.)

The Raptor firewall does not store the mail at any point, which frees
it from worrying about retransmissions of mail -- if the internal
email server succeeds in delivering the mail, that means the external
server actually received the mail, not that it was temporarily stored
on the firewall.

You will however need to give the Raptor firewall two interfaces; you
cannot run it with just one.

The customer might complain that they already have a firewall, but 1)
they can get the reasonably inexpensive 25 user version 2) they
already chose to ignore your suggestions of cheaper solutions.
