Shiva isn't available anymore - Intel pulled the plug on the range 6 weeks
ago.

Cisco AS5300 was the closest equivalent to the Shiva LRAS, and a 3640 is
about the same as a LanRover

Juan

You need a hardware solution that can perform callback.
Cisco & Shiva are able to do that. Amongst other products of course.
The user calls and hangs up and then the RAS calls back to the number
associated with the user in the configuration.

Hello there guys and gals, gurus of the world :)

Do any of you guys knows of any piece of hardware with RAS capabilities but
with
the nice feature that instead of receiving calls, it initiates the calls to
the
outside and establishes PPP connections with remote locations? As a security
meassure we are now looking for a solution that would allow us to be the
ones to
initiate calls to authorized remote users instead of them calling us (which
is
basically the difference from the traditional call-receiving RAS boxes out
there). My apologies if this is not related at all to security but since I
see
so much wisdom in here ... (although we are doing this for security reasons,
because we want to have full control of when and how long the calls take
place).
Thanks beforehand for any pointers of feedback. Regards,

Don Juan
