postfix is a total replacement for sendmail, or qmail. as is qmail, a
replacement for sendmail or postfix. there are better forums to get
postfix info, though.

i thikn your confusion comes from the fact that postfix can pretend to be
sendmail. this is because some poorly written software will expect
sendmail and hardcode that use (with options). postfix can, i believe,
correctly handle this.

anyhow, there are better places to get solid info on postfix. its nice
software, i encourage you to investigate using it.
