This is not true, you can block KaZaA with a port block... TCP/1214. This almost seems like it was an advertisement dropped to the list. As far as apps that change ports, yeah, they occur, and some require layer 7 smarts, but it's not too bad so far, because well over 85% of these clieints run on standard ports anyway, so you can pick them off that way. Also, a lot of clients that range stuff have things that can be taken out of the picture to disable the whole capability of the app. Even as simple of stuff as DNS lookups, etc that can be stopped which will stop the capability of the app. This just takes time to find, and that's what I try to do is find the little trick to the app. I will say though, it's not perfect. There is one client in particular that I'm not going to mention, because I'm still researching a way that I might be able to pick it off.
