Thank you all for the advice. Since the crash fish is no longer the default shell for me on the server. However, the problem persists. The crash may have nothing to do with fish, but if the theory is correct that fish installation changed some libraries that caused the problem, then not running fish or even uninstall it won't fix the problem, right?
I will take a look of what HTH and Steve suggested and it really looks like a "fishing" expedition :-) On Mon, Sep 10, 2012 at 3:05 AM, Hill, Richard D <rich...@kingston.ac.uk> wrote: > Yeah , if fish is your default shell you will most likely run into problems > its best to keep bash as ur default shell > And just call fish in your .bash_profile , that way you get fish for terminal > use but any programs that need to run in the background should use bash to > launch rather than fish , which seems to be causing problems. > > Doug. > > > > -----Original Message----- > From: Wai Yan Pong [mailto:wypon...@gmail.com] > Sent: 10 September 2012 07:32 > To: fish-users@lists.sourceforge.net > Subject: [Fish-users] Fish installation problem? > > Let me say in advance that it may not be a fish problem at all... but > I have little clue and hope someone can shed some light on it. > > I complied and installed fish on my department server and somehow > since then the apache server crash every time the weekly cron job is > run... > One of my colleagues suspects that installing fish may change some > libraries hence causing the problem. > > The server is running Ubuntu 12.04 and the complains from apport.log are: > > ERROR: apport (pid 17192) Sun Sep 9 06:39:27 2012: called for pid > 27165, signal 11 > ERROR: apport (pid 17192) Sun Sep 9 06:39:27 2012: executable: > /usr/lib/apache2/mpm-prefork/apache2 (command line "/usr/sbin/apache2 > -k start") > ERROR: apport (pid 17192) Sun Sep 9 06:39:27 2012: > is_closing_session(): no DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS in environment > ERROR: apport (pid 17192) Sun Sep 9 06:39:46 2012: wrote report > /var/crash/_usr_lib_apache2_mpm-prefork_apache2.0.crash > ERROR: apport (pid 19230) Sun Sep 9 10:46:49 2012: called for pid > 15151, signal 11 > ERROR: apport (pid 19230) Sun Sep 9 10:46:49 2012: executable: > /usr/local/bin/fish (command line "fish") > ERROR: apport (pid 19230) Sun Sep 9 10:46:49 2012: executable does > not belong to a package, ignoring > > Could installing fish cause the problem?
