Danny, thanks for working on this. I'm also stuck on this point. There's discussion of this and related errors of fish 2.2. in Cygwin at https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/issues/2152 . I want to release a Cygwin package of fish 2.2, but I haven't been able to get it working well enough yet. If you have other patches or fixes that you've applied, please post them here or in the issue queue, so I can incorproate them into the Cygwin package.
