Hi Fishers!

It seems that Iceweasel (aka Firefox) is replacing my ~/.config/fish/.

> ls -l .config/fish/
ls: cannot access .config/fish/aborted-session-ping: No such file or
directory
total 36
?????????? ? ? ? ? ? aborted-session-ping
drwx------ 8 assman ag-avp 2048 Apr 1 00:00 archived/
-rw-r--r-- 1 assman ag-avp 31781 Apr 20 10:52 fish_history
-rw------- 1 assman ag-avp 137 Apr 20 00:00 session-state.json
-rw------- 1 assman ag-avp 51 Sep 7 2015 state.json

Note: The read error on ‘aborted-session-ping’, might be due to network
file system issues. Earlier it showed up as

-rw------- 0 assman ag-avp 10175 Apr 20 07:49 aborted-session-ping

That is, ~/.config/fish/ looks just like the Firefox directory
~/.mozilla/firefox/$PROFILE/datareporting/. (Except for ‘fish_history’,
of course.)

Our system makes nightly backups of the home directories, which means
that not only do I have a backup (whew!), I can also verify that
yesterday, things were still “normal”. In fact, the PC was turned on
and I remained logged in during the night, with both fish and Firefox
running.

In the morning, the fish instances that I had open lost their
configuration the first time I pressed ‘enter’ (e.g., they reverted to
the standard prompt).

Also, ~/.config/fish/ is being updated every now and then as reported by
‘ls -ld’, though I see no changes to the contents (except for
‘fish_history’ being updated, of course, but that does not trigger the
change to the directory's time stamp).

Any ideas what could be happening here?

Incidentally, the first command I tried to run today was ‘help’, which
calls Firefox through ‘xdg-open’. That fish instance crashed on that
command, but that is not so unusual. It happens to me sometimes that
fish crashes after longer periods of inactivity.

My fish, in case that turns out to be relevant, is a self-compiled 2.1.2.

        Elias
