Hi all,

I am very pleased to announce the release of version 2.5.0 of fish.

This release brings a range of general improvements including
improvements to builtin commands, more consistent process management,
several bug fixes and of course many new completions.

This release also marks a shift in the technology underlying fish-shell,
which will allow safer and faster improvements in the future.
Unfortunately, this means that building fish on some older platforms
becomes more difficult. The details are in the release notes.

As always, before upgrading, please read the release notes carefully as
there are a number of known issues and backward-incompatible changes.

The tarball and packages for Linux, OS X and Windows will soon be
available from https://fishshell.com/ and the release notes will be at
https://fishshell.com/release_notes.html - but in the meantime I have
uploaded the release to the GitHub releases page at:
  https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/releases/tag/2.5.0

The Linux packages will be submitted to the release:2 channel shortly,
and if you are using your system package manager to install fish from
these channels a new version will make its way to you soon.

A pull request for Homebrew has been submitted, and should be available
to users of that system shortly.

For our distributors, the tarball is available at
https://github.com/fish-shell/fish-shell/releases/tag/2.5.0 - the
SHA-256 sum is
f8c0edadca2de379ccf305aeace660a9255fa2180c72e85e97705a24c256b2a5 and the
tarball has a signature from my personal PGP key, as does this message.

A big thank you to all those who have contributed code, documentation,
problem reports, and caffeinated beverages over the last ten months.

In particular, thanks and welcome to the following contributors who have
commits in 2.5.0 for the first time:
