The reason I was asking for this is that I regularly do some work on a
very old system where the available fish package version is 1.23.1. So,
I thought building a statically linked fish is the only possibility to
get an up to date fish there.

But I discovered that using homebrew (which is linuxbrew on Linux
systems) makes it possible to install a fish executable for my user
which is what I wanted.
