VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD

If there was such an award, there are about 10 people I think, who should be
nominated. Phillip Odden is one of them. Phillip has been a member of the
NFHR Evaluation Committee and co chairperson since 2003. He has written
several very important documents for the Evaluation Committee which I shall
describe later. Phil is a factual writer. He studies a great deal of data
before he writes. Phil is of Norwegian descent and speaks, reads and
understands the Norwegian language. Phil has researched the Fjord horse
history, and with the help of Tor Nestaas, has recently written several
documentaries which when approved by the BOD will be available to the NFHR
membership. Phil’s research and writings for the evaluation system have
included revising the Young Stock Evaluation, An Ethics Document for
Evaluators and Assistant Technical Delegate Guide. Phil’s latest
documentaries have been “White Markings on Fjord Horses” and “The
Development of the Modern Norwegian Fjord Horse”.

Phillip Odden has also been co sponsor of three Midwest Evaluations and the
2005 MWFHC winter meeting.

At the FHI General Assembly held in Norway in May, 2005, Brian Jensen was
elected for a two year term with Phillip Odden as his alternate. This is
the first time Americans have been elected to FHI. Phil is well known and
respected in Europe.

I admire Phil for his honesty and for standing up for what he believes.
Phillip Odden believes in a level playing field, a transparent evaluation
system, accurate information and education of the NFHR membership.

Sincerely,
Sophie Fiedler
