I use something like the blanket clip but a little more severe. We do a trace clip which removes only the long hair on the front of the neck, a little of the chest, between the front legs, under the belly (and a little way up the side -depending) and the long fluff on the back of the buttocks. It looks a bit peculiar but dries pretty quickly after a hard workout. Kilar gets such a heavy coat that he takes forever to dry. This at least takes of the lower hair where the sweat runs to. He has not had any problems about the cold air on his belly or chest (I towel dry first to make it dry even faster) and most of the parts clipped are not blanket covered anyway. We do not blanket unless the horse is still damp in the trailer.

Hi Genie

I live in Virginia - the colder part, but I'm sure not as cold as MI. Here I give my horses that I am using a blanket clip (this clip looks just like it sounds - the hair is left on where a blanket would fit).
