I live in Virginia - the colder part, but I'm sure not as cold as MI. Here I give my horses that I am using a blanket clip (this clip looks just like it sounds - the hair is left on where a blanket would fit). I don't blanket mine except when we have very cold wet weather - then I just put a water-proof sheet on to keep them dry. They do have access to a run-in shed. So far I have had no shivering. This clip works well with work - where they sweat they have no hair - they stay cleaner with no long hair also. When I finish riding in the winter they are dry and ready to turn out. I do leave the hair on their legs for when I go thru rough brushy areas. We have had almost 4" of rain from Jeanne so far. Mary Harvey
