Debbie - in my opinion your statement above defines a good perspective on
breeding your mare.

My only advice is to take that statement and go one further. Make sure
through whatever means you can afford, that the resulting foal is better
than the sire and dam. That is what a breeder is suppose to do.

And don't think just because you have one mare you cannot make an impact on
the breed. Winsome Adante - twice Rolex winner and going to Athens - on the
US team - his dam only had two foals.

If you can't get her to an evaluation there are other ways to getting a
knowledgable un biased opinion of her.

When selecting the stallion ask to see what their offspring looks like and
have done. Try to pin point the common traits the stallion is throwing. Look
for horses with simular breeding to your mare, you may be surprised there
could be full brothers and/or sisters out there - look at them and see what
is breeding true in that line.

And look at your mare - not from your heart - its hard sometimes when a
horse does so well for us as it appears your mare has done for you, and then
you have trouble - tending to gloss over her flaws. Try to stay objective.

Good luck
Pat Holland
