Hi Vivian, Those "giants" you speak of may not be what we call giants today.
As I understand horses were small until the wearing of armor when they
needed larger horses to carry the weight of the armor etc..  I have a bit,
mouthpiece, from an armored horse and it measures 5 1/4 and it is not
massively built.  It would help to find someplace in history where the
"giants" were measured in hands.  I know one of the largest horses at 21 or
22 hands was alive during the 1890s, 1900.  Jean Gayle
