THank-you for the info! Another source of fat besides oil is rice bran. I have a quarter horse who is hard to keep weight on. I feed him 3 cups of rice bran on top of his oats twice a day. It seems to do the trick. IT is expensive but much less messy than oil and gives the same sheen to their coat. I agree with the complete feed scenerio that people tend to feed then add supplements on top of that. Two yr. ago when I was at Equitana I too listened to a seminar on nutrition. When I got back, I switched all my horses off of the sweet feed to plain race horse oats with Winnies Cookies as the only supplement. (like a bran muffin with all the vitamins/minerals in one). Even the better feeds such as Purina and Nutrena have a lot of fillers that aren't good for them. It is so hard to decide what is best for our special animals! Susan in Minnesota
