Anneli, Thank you for your response.  I use the old tack references as a way
to date my old bits.  The last time I was in Germany I stayed with friends
in their castle Babenhausen.  In their museum was an old book dating to the
1500s.  They also had ancient tack but of course no sale.  I do have a book
by a monk done in the 80s I believe ( it is under piles of books) about bits
etc from Luristan.  So there is also one about the horse in Shakeperian
times that I would like to find.  It is also fairly recent.  Primarily, I
collect bits, as I have ceased to buy other tack unless absolutely old, old,
