Hi Gang, I use a twisted wire snaffle in a 5-6" flanged hackamore. My
"hardmouthed, used to driving, gotten away with murder," eight year old
gelding turns on a dime! I barely have to touch the reins now. It took it
a time or two to learn, but now he gets the picture and has'nt run off with
either me or the trainer in ages. He goes out of the round pen and trails
all over the countryside here in the foothills. He still is a little
spooky, (I think by nature. He jumped at a little 5" horned toad the other
day, as if it was out of Jurrasic Park!), but no more running around like
a nut. We progressed up from a kimberwick, d-ring snaffle, tom thumb,
hackamore without the wire snaffle and finally with what he has now. Doing
well in No. Cal. In the 95's, sunny and breezy. Denise
