This message is from: Arthur and Carol Rivoire <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Hello from Carol Rivoire at Beaver Dam Farm in Nova Scotia -
Because of serious illness in the family, I didn't do my usual Fall Newsletter. I also didn't do a Herald ad for our Nova Scotia Beginner Driving Vacation. And, to make matters worse, I haven't had time to update our Driving Vacation website. People have been calling asking if we're still doing the Beginner Driving Vacations, and the answer is - YES! We sure are, and very much looking forward to our 11th Season. Arthur and I fell in love with Nova Scotia when we vacationed here in 1987, so much so that we put a deposit on a sublime 300 acre farm in Antigonish County on the warm, gentle Northern Coast of the peninsula. We moved here with 18 horses just as soon as we could manage. Friends and family thought we were crazy, but in fact, it's turned out much better than we ever imagined. Each year we love it more. Nova Scotia has to be one of the most pleasant places in the world to live. In fact, we half-jokingly call our town of Antigonish, "Pleasantville." In all the nicest ways, Nova Scotia is about 50 years behind the times. The lifestyle and the people are beyond belief. Now, CNN and Money Magazine have discovered what we and all our guests have known for years, and named Nova Scotia "one of 12 perfect places in North America to spend a summer holiday." Their extensive criteria were - A destination worth spending a week or two, including side trips, and offering a wide range of attractions from outdoor adventure to cultural events and fine dining. Winners also had to be of great value and well worth the dollars spent. CNN described Nova Scotia as "an even more pictureque version of northern New England." It said the province offers "a wonderful mixture of coastal villages, vast tracts of forested wilderness, Old World traditions and even a bit of hip sophistication." --- And they commented on the unusually warm-water beaches in our part of Nova Scotia - ". . .a geographical quirk draws the warm water of the Gulf Stream into the straits between northern Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. So bring a bathing suit." So, come spend four days at Beaver Dam Farm in northern Nova Scotia learning how to safely drive Fjordhorsees, but save a few days to see some of the province. We're only a few miles from Cape Breton Island where the Scottish heritage has survived almost untouched in the accents of the locals and the Celtic music you hear everywhere. Drive the Cabot Trail, described by Alexander Graham Bell as "The most spectacular drive in North America." The "Charming Cottage" - the rental house on the farm is already booked for the entire season. Sorry, but it books earlier each year. However, there are other absolutely wonderful accomodations very nearby - everything from farm Bed & Breakfasts to lovely inns and rental cabins with splendid ocean views. We have quiet, well-trained Fjordhorses for the Driving Program, as well as several top quality and well-trained Fjords on our Sales List. You'll be driving the first day, and by the fourth day, you'll be doing a dressage test and driving a cones course. Our emphasis is on Safety and Kindness to our horses. We're serious about teaching you right, but we're also relaxed and we have a lot of fun. -- Lunch is served at Hill House overlooking the blue waters of the bay. It's a lavish buffet, featuring homemade soups, salads, sandwiches, and great, old-fashioned desserts. --- Wednesday afternoon, we take horses and guests and staff to the beach for a Wine & Cheese Party. "It's a hoot!" as one guest put it. We hope you'll be able to join us this summer. Arthur and I have traveled much of the world, and never seen anything to rival this. Nova Scotia in summer is Heaven on earth. Along with horses and scenery and warm-water beaches, there's great golf all around us, and the 2nd best course in all of Canada is on Cape Breton Island. There's wonderful music, professional theatre, and some of the best restaurants we've ever ever found. Step back in time with us this summer to a kind and gentle world.
