Thanks Carol for those tidbits of information .. sounds like a wonderful week at BDF, with your liontamer who is sharing her valuable insights. One of the messages from our experience with Olaf Nyby was the importance of groundwork, and long lining in particular to both horse and whip. And learning to read when the horse was truly accepting of the bit and engaged through the hind quarters .. the description of being asked to stand at the horse's neck and ask for that engagement before mounting was very interesting and made sense to me. I often think that many of the problems we experience come from insufficient time, even a few minutes, spent in preparing the horse mentally, to work, before we hitch or mount .. thanks for sharing, another first for BDF!
